Quiksilver Summer Series starting on 16 December!
The 9th Quiksilver Summer Series, proudly sponsored by Quiksilver and hosted by St Francis Sport, will kick off on 16 December with an MTB Night Ride and Trail Run. The Quiksilver Summer Series will include two new events – a choice between swim or SUP and a Colour Run on New Year’s Day.
The series consists of 10 events and one free event and sporting enthusiasts can look forward to the usual swimming, running, cycling and paddling events, as well as combinations thereof at different venues in St Francis and Cape St Francis.
Registration for the Quiksilver Summer Series can be done on the day, 60 minutes before the event at each respective venue, and race briefing will be 15 minutes before the start. Multiple events can be done as teams or individuals, in age categories under 12, under 17 and open. The entry fee is R60 for adults, and R40 for all under 17’s.
The Quiksilver MTB Night Ride and Run will open the season on Wednesday 16 December from 19:00. Registration can be done from 18:00 at Picazzo’s, Village Centre, and the route will go through the St Francis Bay Golf Course. Runners will start the event with a 5km run, followed by the popular “who can do the most 5km loops in 60 minutes” MTB Ride. The 5km route will go through the St Francis Bay Golf Course. Headlamps are required.
On Thursday 17 December the action will move to Sea Glades Drive. At 08:00 the Quiksilver Summer Series Duathlon (Swim and road run) will start with a 500m swim/3km run or 1km swim/6km run, teams or individuals. Registration can be done from 07:00 at the new Quayside Restaurant at the same venue.
On Friday 18 December roadies will get the opportunity for a challenge with the Quiksilver Road Race, starting at 08:00 and also finishing at the Cape St Francis Resort. The distances are 15km and 55km (only open category).
On Monday 21 December runners and walkers can join the annual Fun Run from SUPERSPAR Village Square, St Francis Drive. The Quiksilver Summer Series Fun Run will start at 08:00 and distances are 5km and 10km.
The action on Tuesday 22 December will move to the St Francis Field for the Quiksilver Extreme Duathlon: 15km MTB & 5km Trail Run, at St Francis Drive, St Francis Field (use the entrance on the Port St Francis side). Don’t underestimate the distances, this is a toughie!! Again this event starts at 08:00.
The Quicksilver Open Water Swim will start and finish at the Granny’s Pool, Harbour Road, St Francis Bay on Wednesday 23 December starting at 08:00. As the event rained out last year, the organisers decided to have Thursday 24 December as a reserve day. The route is from the Granny’s Pool to the beach at Port St Francis and back. The final distance and route will be decided on the day taking the weather into consideration.
New on the calendar is the Full Moon Penguin Waddle on Saturday 26 December at 18:30 for 20:00. The entry fee will be cash donations towards SANCCOB EC, and please bring your old towels and newspapers always needed at the seabird rehabilitation centre. The distance of 5km will start at the Cape St Francis Main Beach Parking area and follow the shoreline. Headlamps are required.
The very popular Quiksilver Quadrathlon will take place on Tuesday 29 December, again from Sea Glades Drive at 08:00. Individuals and Teams can challenge each other over a 12km cycle, 300m swim, 3km run, plus 3km paddle.
The next morning, Wednesday 30 December will see another new event, the Quiksilver Swim or SUP again at Sea Glades Drive, St Francis Bay. Distances are Bank 2 Bank (under 12 only), 500m, 1km, 2km, 3km. Participants can choose to swim or use a Stand Up Paddling Board. Starting time 08:00.
The annual Quiksilver MTB Challenge will take place on Thursday 31 December at 08:00 from Pomme Frittes (old Lucky Bean) on the corner of the R330 and the Oyster Bay Road, using various dirt roads in the area.
On Friday 1 January the last event, the New Year’s Colour Run, will be a great family affair at 10:00 from Picazzo’s in the Village Centre, St Francis Drive. Come join in the fun (in old clothes), and enjoy a slow 5km run or walk through the area – this is for young and old, a great opportunity to kick 2016 off with a big smile.
Bos Sport will sponsor drinks for most events.

Other events on the sporting calendar include two charity fun runs, firstly the Cape St Francis Resort Fun Run in aid of Talhado Children’s Haven on 24 December at 07:30, and secondly the FOSTER Fun Run on 28 December, also at 07:30 from the Resort. Both events will host a 5km and 10km distance. Walkers are welcome but the route is not wheelchair friendly.
The annual Port St Francis Triathlon will take place on 26 December at 08:30 and the St Francis Paddling Club will host a surfski event on 28 December at 09:00 from main beach as well as a canal canoe challenge on New Year’s Day at 17:00.
The St Francis parkrun will be hosted each and every Saturday at 08:00 at the St Francis Links.
The annual St Francis Field Fly-In will be hosted on 30 December and is an open day to visit the Airpark from 07:30. A wide variety of aircraft and helicopters will be flying in and skydivers will be dropping in, with tandem skydives available (weather permitting)
