Summer Series kicks off on 19th December
The 10th St Francis Sport Summer Series will kick off on 19 December with the road run on a new route starting and finishing at the Cape St Francis Resort. Two more new events are on the programme, both going through the beautiful Duneridge Nature Reserve, a trail run as well as an MTB Challenge on 22 and 27 December respectively.
This year’s series consists of 9 events which includes a charity event in aid of SANCCOB. Sporting enthusiasts can look forward to the usual swimming, running, cycling and paddling as well as combinations of these disciplines at different venues in St Francis and Cape St Francis.
The programme is as follows:
- Monday 19 December 08:00 Road Run, Cape St Francis Resort (5, 10km)
- Tuesday 20 December 08:00 Swim, Sea Glades Drive (bank to bank, 500m, 1km, 2km, 3km)
- Wednesday 21 Dec 08:00 Duathlon (Swim and Run), Sea Glades Dr (500m swim/3km run, 1km swim/6km run)
- Thursday 22 December 08:00 Trail Run, Duneridge Country House (5km, 15km)
- Friday 23 December 08:00 Extreme Duathlon (MTB & Trail Run), St Francis Field

Registration can be done on the day, 60 minutes before the event at each respective venue, and race briefing will be 15 minutes before the start. Multiple events can be done as teams or individuals, in age categories under 14, under 17 and open.
The entry fees:
R80 for adults, and R50 for all under 14’s.
All events start at 08:00.
The road run on Monday 19 December will take place from the Cape St Francis Resort. The 5km and 15km route will follow Da Gama Road into the St Francis Field.
On Tuesday 20 December the action will move to Sea Glades Drive for the annual canal swim with distances bank to bank for under 12’s, plus 500m, 1, 2 or 3km.
On Wednesday 21 December the Duathlon (Swim and road run) will take place at the same venue with a 500m swim/3km run or 1km swim/6km run, teams or individuals to choose from.
Thursday 22 December will see the first trail run in the Duneridge Nature Reserve, and the scenery promises to be spectacular. Runners can choose between 5km and 15km.
On Friday 23 December the action moves to the St Francis Field for the Extreme Duathlon. Don’t underestimate the shorter distances of 15km MTB and 5km trail run, as the conditions are rought. Use the entrance in St Francis Drive opposite Port St Francis into St Francis Field.
This year’s MTB Challenge will also take place on the Duneridge Nature Reserve, and distances are 15km or 30km. The jeep tracks and grassy roads promise to be what the name says, a challenge. This will take place on Tuesday 27 December.
On Thursday 29 December the very popular Quadrathlon will take place from Sea Glades Drive. Individuals and Teams can challenge each other over a 12km cycle, 300m swim, 3km run, plus 3km paddle. Also on Thursday 29 December is a New Moon Penguin Walk 19:30 for 20:00. The entry fee will be cash donations towards SANCCOB EC. The distance of 5km will start at the Cape St Francis Main Beach Parking area and follow the shoreline. Headlamps are required and glow sticks will be for sale.
The Open Water Swim will start and finish at the Granny’s Pool, Harbour Road, St Francis Bay on Friday 30 December, with Saturday 31 December the reserve day. The route will be finalised on the day taking weather conditions into consideration.

Other events on the sporting calendar include two charity fun runs, firstly the Cape St Francis Resort Fun Run in aid of Talhado Children’s Haven on 24 December at 07:30, and secondly the FOSTER Fun Run on 28 December, also at 07:30 from the Resort. Both events will host a 5km and 10km distance. Walkers are welcome but the route is not wheelchair friendly.
The annual Port St Francis Triathlon will take place on 26 December at 08:30 and the St Francis Paddling Club will host 3 events on 24 and 28 December as well as the canal canoe challenge on New Year’s Day at 17:00.
The St Francis parkrun will be hosted each and every Saturday at 08:00 at the St Francis Links.
The annual St Francis Field Fly-In will be hosted on 28 December and is an open day to visit the Airpark from 07:30. A wide variety of aircraft and helicopters will be flying in and skydivers will be dropping in, with tandem skydives available (weather permitting).
