Annual Summer Series starts on 16 Dec 2019

For the 13th consecutive year runners, cyclists, paddlers and swimmers in the greater St Francis will be able to add friendly rivalry or stiff competition to their annual holiday programme when the St Francis Sport Summer Series kicks off on the 16th of December with the canal swim.

These four sporting disciplines, plus combinations thereof, are the main ingredients for what is known as “The Summer Series.”  Without further ado, here are the events teams or individuals can choose from:

Monday, 16 December  08:00  Summer Series Canal Swim (bank2bank, 500m, 1km, 2km, 3km), Quaysyde, St Francis Bay.

Tuesday, 17 December 08:00  Summer Series Road Run (5km, 10km), Cape St Francis Resort.

Wednesday, 18 December 08:00  Summer Series Duathlon Swim & Run (500m swim/3km run, 1km swim/6km run), Quaysyde, St Francis Bay.  Teams or Individuals.

Thursday 19 December 08:00 Summer Series Trail Run (5km, 15km), Eskom Conservation Reserve, Duneridge Country House, St Francis Bay.

Friday 20 December  08:00 Summer Series Triple Challenge (Swim, Run, Paddle) (500m/3km run/3 km paddle OR 1km swim/6km run/5km paddle), Quaysyde, St Francis Bay.  Teams or Individuals.

Monday, 23 December  08:00 Summer Series Extreme Duathlon (5km trail run/15km MTB or 10km trail run/30km MTB) St Francis Field.  Teams or Individuals.

Thursday 26 December 19:00 Chokka Trail Full Moon Run (5km), Cape St Francis Beach in aid of Beach Clean-up.  Esti 073 825 0835. Entry fee cash donation of own choice.

Friday, 27 December  16:00 Endless Summer Open Water Swim 2,3km, Port St Francis – Granny’s Pool, St Francis Bay.  Pre-register with Haydn 074 603 9311.  Reserve days 28, 29, 30 Dec.

Monday, 30 December 08:00 Pam Golding Quadrathlon (500m swim, 12km cycle, 3km run, 3km paddle), Quaysyde, St Francis Bay.  Teams or Individuals.

Tuesday, 31 December 08:00 Summer Series MTB Challenge (15km, 30km), Eskom Conservation Reserve, Duneridge Country House, St Francis Bay.  Esti 073 825 0835.

Entry fee is R100 for adults and u/17’s, and R80 for u/14’s.  Certificates to top 3 Male and Female in each category.

Get entry forms and programmes from Custom Bikes in the Village Centre or St Francis Tourism inside the Kouga Municipal Building, Assissi Drive.

Tuesday, 24 December 08:00  Talhado Charity Road Run (5km, 10km), Cape St Francis Resort.  042-298 0054.

Saturday 28 December 08:00 FOSTER Charity Trail Run (5km, 15km), Cape St Francis Resort.  042-2980054.

On Friday 27 December 07:30 the Annual Fly In will take place at St Francis Field with the 28th as reserve day.  This is a lovely show off of different kinds of aeroplanes flying in from far and wide for the morning.  For more info, contact John 082 652 6601.

For the more serious paddlers, the St Francis Paddling Club is organising three diverse events throughout season:

Sunday 22 December 09:00 Carey Olsen Shark Point Surfski Race, Cape St Francis Main Beach, on Saturday 28 December 09:00 Sporty Anderson Memorial Surfski Race, St Francis Main Beach and on Wednesday 1 January 13:00 Canal Canoe Challenge (5km, 10km), Quaysyde, St Francis Bay.  Please contact Peter Mitchley for race info, entry fees and compulsory kit on 082 881 1193.

Thrown into the mix is the weekly parkrun, as usual 52 weeks a year at 08:00 from the St Francis Links.  Arrive early as parking is limited, an please adhere to the friendly request of No Dogs during season.
